Bloomsburg Opens New Stadium with Win

BLOOMSBURG--Sophomore Jamie Vanartsdalen (Hungtington Valley/Lower Moreland) scored three times to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to an 8-2 win over Mansfield University on Saturday night.

Prior to the game the official grand opening of Sports Stadium was held. Sports Stadium is the Huskies new $1.5 million dollar, lighted turf field.

Bloomsburg wasted little time getting on the board with Vanartsdalen scoring just 2:03 into the contest. Just over a minute later Maribeth Brozena (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) scored to make it 2-0 with Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scoring at 6:09 to put the Huskies in front by three goals.

In second half, the Huskies got two more goals from Vanartsdalen, and one each from Kropa, Morgan Wolf (Oley/Oley Valley) and Venessa Witman (Oley/Oley Valley).

Bloomsburg, 3-0, will host Mercyhurst on Sunday at 1 p.m.
